About This Notice Period Calculator
This calculator helps employees plan their exit from employment by computing the exact last working day based on notice period length and resignation date. It supports both calendar day and working day (Mon-Fri) calculation modes. If you want to exit before completing the full notice period, enter your proposed early exit date to instantly see how many days short you are and the buyout amount you'd need to pay. Buyout is computed as (Monthly Salary ÷ 30) × days short. The calculator also shows a visual timeline of your notice period — where today falls between resignation and last working day. Use the exit checklist to ensure a smooth, professionally handled separation from your employer.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a notice period? +
A notice period is the minimum time an employee must work after submitting resignation, or minimum time an employer must give before termination. In India, typically 1-3 months. Specified in your appointment letter or employment contract.
What is notice period buyout? +
Notice buyout allows early exit by paying the equivalent salary for remaining days. Formula: (Monthly Salary / 30) × remaining days. E.g., ₹1L/month with 45 days remaining = ₹1,50,000 buyout. Some employers also allow notice waiver without payment.
Can an employer waive the notice period? +
Yes. Employers can waive part or all of the notice period and relieve early. This is at employer's discretion and should always be confirmed in writing. The relieving letter should reflect the actual last working day agreed upon.
Does notice period include weekends? +
Most Indian employment contracts count notice in calendar days (including weekends), not working days. Check your appointment letter carefully. This calculator supports both modes. "30 days notice" almost always means 30 calendar days.
